4th of July Celebrations Around Sodus Bay

There will be no shortage of things to do around Great Sodus Bay this July 4th  weekend and throughout the month.

July 3rd - The Sodus Point Fire Department kicks off its Fourth of July Fireworks  as soon as it gets dark.  This is always a spectacular and popular event - get your seats early in the evening. The fireworks can be viewed from all points of Sodus Bay - from the beach, the lighthouse museum, the ball park, or one of the restaurants on Greig Street.

Earlier in the day a Red, White, and Blue Kiddie Parade at 10:00 AM. Children march in costume from the Sodus Point Fire Hall on Bay Street to the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum on N. Ontario Street. Refreshments for all who participate.

July 4th - The ever popular Breakfast on the Bluff - 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM overlooking Lake Ontario at the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum.  Cost is $8.00 Sponsored by the Sodus and Scottsville Lions Club.

At 7:00 AM Registration for the Lighthouse 5-K Run Race begins at 9:00 AM. This event draws over 500 runners. Get your Registration Form on the web at www.sodusbaylighthouse.org

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM- Fine Art & Craft Show  on the lawn of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum. Pottery, jewelry, paintings, photos and more.





2:00 - 4:00 PM - FREE Outdoor Concert in the Park at the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum.  The Gap Mangione Big Band always kicks off the Summer Concert Series. Audience members should bring their own lawn chairs.  Refreshments are available for sale during the concert.

FREE Admission All Day into the lighthouse museum on July 4th. Visitors can climb the lighthouse tower and see displays of the War of 1812 when the British attacked Sodus Point, learn what life was like back in the 1800's, history of the railroad and why visitors came to Sodus Bay back in the day.

July 27th - Summer Sips and Sounds - Wine and Music Fest - At Long Acre Farms  on 1342 Eddy Rd. Macedon, NY- Noon till 5:00 PM.  Sample 7 Lake Ontario Wineries and one distillery. Music by Big Blue House and the Lester Funk Band. Pulled Pork dinners and all kinds of activities for the kids.

Wine Tasting Event - Lake Ontario Wine Trail

Looking for something to do this weekend ?

Roll out the Barrels - You'll have a barrel of fun.....

Taste new wines straight from the barrels at 8 Lake Ontario Wineries and 
1 distillery. 

Some wineries specialize in wines made from local fruit such as peaches, apples, and cherries.  Apple Country Spirits specializes in vodka made from a variety of their own apples. 

This a self guided tour - Start where you want and end your day at one of the nearby restaurants. The, come and relax at the Maxwell Creek Inn Bed & Breakfast and enjoy a full gourmet breakfast in the morning.

Tickets are $15 pp and can be purchased online or at your starting winery or distillery.

Antique Toy Exhibit
The Wayne County Museum
located on Butternut St. in Lyons, NY
will open an antique toy exhibit on March 20, 2014.

The exhibit will  feature classic antique toys from the National Toy Hall of Fame through August 2nd.
They don't make them like that any more.

The Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra NY.
An outdoor nighttime theatre production about the story of how the Mormon religion was founded. This is FREE to the public and begins at 9:15 PM.  The theater is produced on the actual hillside in which Joseph Smith was visited by the angel Morona. Having seen this myself, the theatrics is amazing and filled with action and music. For more information on the pageant go to: http://www.hillcumorah.org

July 20, 2013  Can You Sink a Boat? This Annual FUN filled day starts at the Sodus Point Beach - on the bayside.  A competitive game played by firemen and hosted by the Sodus Point Fire Department. 
The GAME-  2 aluminum boats tied together with a 4 man team in each. Each boat is equipped with a hose. Team members try to fill up the other boat with water before the other team fills your boat.  The object - to sink or be sunk. 
Sign-up starts at 8AM. Game begins at 9AM. 
The RULES:
Must be a volunteer or paid firefighter. Male or Female
Must wear turnout gear: Gloves, Boots, Helmet, Turnout coat, must have 4 firefighter on team, Must park at the beach, MUST HAVE FUN!

In the Hamlet of Pultneyville, NY- The Williamson-Pultneyville Historical Society events focus on Shipping and Ship Building. On July 20 the festivities begins with a 5K-Run at B.Forman Park at 7:45 A.M.,  A Sunfish Revival Regatta throughout the day, ice cream social, re-enactment of the War of 1812, Homecoming Parade, concert in the park and more. Historic Guided Walk around Sodus Point. Meet at the Lighthouse Museum on North Ontario St. in Sodus Point. This is a weather permitting FREE activity. Visit the sites of the Battle of Sodus Point-the War of 1812, the historic lighthouse museum, learn about shipping on the Sodus Bay, and the Underground Railroad history.

July 10 - 14, 2013
Peppermint Days Festival - Lyons , NY was the capital for growing and utilizing peppermint for various uses. From peppermint oil, liquors, gum, candles, candies and toothpaste. Click here for the festival schedule that starts on July 10th. 
Visit the Hotchkiss Peppermint Discovery Center to learn about the uses of peppermint oil. The 
                 Discovery Center is open Saturdays 1 - 4 PM.

There is a FREE concert every Sunday (weather permitting) through Labor Day. The Museum is open to the public Tuesdays - Sunday, 10:00 AM

Cinco de Vino

Make it a Lake Ontario Wine Trail weekend on May 4 & 5 starting at 10:00 AM. Seven wineries featuring a local wine in a Sangria recipe pared with a delicious salsa and chips. Tickets can be purchased on line or at the door $10 each or 2 for $15. This is a self guided tour. You get to choose where you start and end.

While on the trail visit the historic Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum located on North Fitzhugh St. in Sodus Point. The lighthouse officially opens on May 1st at 10:00 A.M. Step back in time and learn what it was like to be a lighthouse keeper, where the British landed during the War of 1812, the Sodus Bay region as a shipping port and the roll it played during the Civil War and the Underground Railroad.

After enjoying a day on the Lake Ontario Wine Trail tasting new vintage wines straight out of the barrel, relax by the water savoring excellent cuisine at the Pultneyville Grill or the Pultneyville Deli Company.



Then take in some local theater at
Gates Hall just around the corner in Pultneyville.  



The Gatesinger Company presents a Civil War story of four sisters coming of age;  "Little Women the Broadway Musical".
This timeless musical will be held on April 19, 20,21
and 26 & 27, 2013 - 8:00 PM at Gates Hall in Pultneyville, NY. 
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students. 

The Gatesinger Company features several well known theatre productions throughout the year. A little history about Gates Hall: Built in 1825, the building was originally used as a non-denominational church. Lake Ontario Wineries "Roll Out the Barrels"

Seven  wineries "Roll Out the Barrels" on April 20 & 21, 2013. The event is 10 AM to 5 PM. Visitors can taste ALL NEW 2012 vintage wines right out of the tanks and barrels. Some wineries specialize in fruit wines, ice wines, white wines and red. Passports are on sale now. For more details visit the Lake Ontario Wine Trail   Additional stops along the wine trail include great restaurants and gift shops offering a free gift just for stopping in.

After spending the day on the Lake Ontario Wine Trail we encourage you to stop at Captain Jack's in Sodus Point or the Pultneyville Deli Company- Pub in Pultneyville to enjoy a sumptuous meal during your stay.
